alex and jake's bar mitzvah party

The son of a friend and former coworker of mine was about to take a huge leap into manhood. Bar mitzvah time! To make a big event even bigger, Alex teamed up with his best friend Jake and had a double bar mitzvah. The mothers came to me to create a logo and invitation to the reception. As with any good party, this one had a theme: football. I took the boys' favorite colors and fashioned a bold type treatment using their names to form a team logo. (Team Alex and Jake, as it were.) I wanted the families to have a one-of-a-kind invitation, so I crafted something unique and interactive. The piece looked like a standard front-and-back card, but was oh so much more. Recipients were directed to a YouTube page where they could watch Alex and Jake demonstrate how to fold the invitation into a classic, triangular paper football. Part invitation, part game, totally fun. This was an awesome project for me, and the families were thrilled with the creative. We all scored!

The two sides of the invitation

Invitees could fold the invitation into a triangular football.

The two sides of the invitation, once folded. Party details remain on one side, so the football acts as both a reminder and an event keepsake.

The invitation provided a link to a YouTube channel where recipients could watch Alex and Jake demonstrate how to fold the card into a football.
